Okara Electrician Severely Injured After Getting Shock on Power Tower

Okara – July 16, 2025:
An electrician was seriously injured in Okara on Tuesday after receiving a strong electric shock while trying to fix a power line on an electricity tower. The man, identified as 35-year-old Rashid Ali, was immediately rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital by local residents and rescue teams.

The shocking incident occurred in a small village on the outskirts of Okara, where a power supply issue had been reported in the early hours of the morning. Rashid, who works with a private electricity maintenance contractor, had climbed the high-voltage tower to repair a broken connection. According to witnesses, just minutes after reaching the top, he was hit by a powerful electric shock and collapsed on the tower.

Eyewitness Accounts

Local resident Muhammad Imran, who saw the incident happen, said, “He was fixing something on the tower when suddenly we saw a spark and heard a loud sound. Rashid screamed and stopped moving. It was terrifying.”

Nearby residents immediately alerted Rescue 1122, and emergency responders reached the spot within minutes. Rescuers had to carefully bring Rashid down from the tower using safety equipment, as he was unconscious and stuck in a dangerous position.

Immediate Medical Response

Rashid was taken to the emergency department of DHQ Hospital Okara, where doctors confirmed that he had suffered serious burns and electric shock injuries. According to hospital sources, his condition is critical but stable, and he is being closely monitored by the medical team.

“He has burn marks on his hands and chest, and we suspect internal injuries as well. Our medical team is making every possible effort to keep him alive,” said the senior doctor overseeing his treatment.

Possible Negligence

Locals and co-workers are questioning whether proper safety procedures were followed during the repair task. It is unclear if Rashid had switched off the electricity before climbing the tower or whether he was provided with the necessary safety gear.

“A complete crew with the right tools should have been present for the task. One man climbing such a dangerous tower alone is risky and irresponsible,” said another electrician from the area.

Officials from the local electricity department have launched an internal inquiry to find out if negligence was involved. The contractor company that hired Rashid has not yet issued any statement on the incident.

Call for Better Safety Measures

This incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of workers who deal with electricity, especially in smaller towns and rural areas. Many electricians in Pakistan work without protective gear, insurance, or training, putting their lives at constant risk.

Experts say that strict rules, regular safety checks, and proper training are necessary to prevent such accidents in the future. “Electricity is dangerous. Even a small mistake can turn deadly,” said a retired WAPDA engineer.

Community Reaction

People from Rashid’s neighborhood have gathered outside the hospital, praying for his recovery. His family is in shock and demanding justice if any negligence is found.

This event highlights the daily risks electricians face to keep our homes powered. Their safety must be treated as a top priority, not an afterthought.
